What we analyze
This test discovers whether your genetics carry 7 or more repeats of the "wanderlust gene" (DRD4-7R) - the dopamine D4 receptor gene. There are different varieties of DRD4; the gene has a sequence that is repeated between 2 and 11 times, and people with a certain version tend to be more curious and adventurous. Individuals with the wanderlust variant produce a version of the D4 receptor that doesn’t bind dopamine as well as those with 6 or fewer repeats, leading to reduced dopamine in the brain and less of the "good feeling" associated with it. Your brain may compensate by seeking novelty - travel, exploration, and new experiences. The test uses a simple cheek swab to score for Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs); research supports that analysis of SNPs reveals the influence of DNA on personality and behavioral traits.
